AI Innovation Takes Center Stage
This innovation, led by Srinath Sridhar, a robotics researcher and assistant professor of computer science at Brown University, and Sudarshan Harithas, a PhD student in computer science, has the potential to revolutionize the field of humanoid robotics. The team’s collaboration, dubbed MotionGlot, aims to develop sophisticated AI models that can perceive the world and control a robot’s actions. While building the hardware for humanoid robots is a challenging task, Sridhar emphasizes that the true hurdle lies in creating a robust “brain” that can facilitate complex tasks, particularly those requiring dexterity.
The recent unveiling of Russia’s first humanoid robot, AIDOL, which lost its balance and fell, serves as a prime example of the current limitations in humanoid robotics. According to Sridhar, the mechanical aspects of AIDOL seem to be functioning adequately, but its “brain” is not sophisticated enough to recover from missteps.
The United States and China are currently at the forefront of AI development, with significant advancements in control algorithms and AI models.
When “ The Jetsons ” premiered in 1962, the TV show imagined a future filled with humanoid helpers handling everything from cleaning to maintenance …
