Airbus Enters Humanoid Robotics With Acquisition Of Chinese UBTech Robots

Airbus, a leading European airplane manufacturer, has made a significant move into the world of humanoid robotics. The company has purchased robots from China-based UBTech, marking a new era in the integration of artificial intelligence and automation in the manufacturing process. According to reports, Airbus has acquired UBTech’s Walker S2, a full-size humanoid robot designed for production environments.

The robot stands at 176 cm tall and weighs 70 kg, with dextrous hands and tactile sensors that enable it to perform complex tasks. The Walker S2 can hold up to 7. 5 kg in each hand and 1 kg with each finger, making it an ideal candidate for assembly line work. The partnership between Airbus and UBTech aims to integrate humanoid robots into the airplane-building process. The Walker S2’s ability to pivot on its waist almost 180 degrees allows it to quickly move components or work on other parts without shifting its feet, making it a valuable asset in production environments.

UBTech has already shipped around 1,000 humanoid robots, placing it in third position globally in terms of shipments. The company is ahead of western robotics manufacturers like Figure AI, Agility Robotics, and Tesla.
