California DMV Accuses Tesla Of Deceptive Self-Driving Claims

In a recent development, California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has accused Tesla of deceiving consumers with its self-driving claims. A ruling by Administrative Judge Juliet Cox found that the electric vehicle manufacturer, led by billionaire Elon Musk, has misled buyers regarding the level of automation in its vehicles.
The DMV stated that Tesla’s marketing practices for its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features were deceptive, leading consumers to believe that its vehicles are more capable of driving themselves than they actually are. As a result, Judge Cox recommended a 30-day sales and production suspension in California, Tesla’s largest U. S. market. However, the DMV has given Tesla 60 days to modify its marketing language for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. The agency does not intend to suspend production at Tesla’s Fremont, California plant.
DMV Director Steve Gordon emphasized that the department is committed to upholding the highest safety standards to protect California’s drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. He also noted that Tesla can resolve this issue by taking simple steps, which other automakers have achieved in California’s supportive innovation marketplace.
