Cobb County To Launch Autonomous Shuttle Service In Cumberland District

In a significant stride towards innovative transportation, Cobb County, Georgia, is set to revolutionize the way people move around the Cumberland district. With a grant from the Federal Transit Administration, the county will launch an autonomous shuttle service, connecting major venues and attractions. The Cumberland Autonomous Mobility network is expected to begin operations in 2027, featuring eight accessible autonomous shuttles.

This project stands out as the first and only AV transit project in the U. S. to receive a Low-No grant award. Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance mobility and improve daily travel experiences. The network will seamlessly connect entertainment venues, area attractions, and key destinations such as the Cobb Convention Center, Cumberland Mall, Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, and the Atlanta Braves’ baseball stadium.

Beep, a company with a proven track record of operating autonomous shuttle services in California, Florida, and Hawai’i, will likely bring its expertise to the project. Their CEO and Chairman, Kevin Reid, described the Cumberland Autonomous Mobility Network as the next evolution of mobility, emphasizing its safety, connectivity, and scalability.
