Malfunctioning Robot Debuts On Stage, Highlights Challenges Of Humanoid Robotics

The robot took a sudden and unplanned dive moments after its debut, leaving the audience with a glimpse of the damaged robot and scattered debris on the stage. Two AIDOL employees quickly intervened, scooping up the fallen robot and hastily dragging it off-stage, while another attempted to conceal the scene with a curtain that unfortunately became tangled.

Despite the inauspicious start, AIDOL’s ambitious project aims to create a sophisticated robot capable of walking at speeds of up to 3. 7 mph and operating autonomously for six hours. The robot is also designed to convey a range of emotions through facial expressions, encompassing 12 basic emotions and various microexpressions.

The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges involved in developing humanoid robots. Notably, even prominent tech companies like Tesla have faced hurdles in this field. When Tesla initially announced its Optimus robot, it resorted to using an actor in a robot costume, but has since made significant progress, unveiling its Optimus Gen 2 robot in late 2023.
