New York State Approves Three Casino Bids In New York City

In a decisive move, the New York State Gaming Commission voted to approve three casino bids in New York City, paving the way for a transformative impact on the local economy. The approved proposals are Steve Cohen’s Metropolitan Park in Queens, Bally’s Bronx, and Resorts World New York City at Aqueduct Racetrack, also in Queens. The commission’s chairman, Brian O’Dwyer, expressed his enthusiasm for the development, stating that the new casinos would bring “hundreds, if not thousands, of good union jobs” to the communities.
He emphasized that this would be a “really transformational” experience for the areas. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards also welcomed the decision, describing it as a “jackpot” for the region. He believed that the casinos would cement Queens’ position as the “undisputed economic and cultural future of New York City.” Richards envisioned a future with increased financial security for union workers, boosted local businesses, and enhanced entertainment options for tourists and residents.
