In a groundbreaking initiative, students at Phoenix’s Villa de Paz Elementary School are reaping the benefits of immersive learning through a mobile virtual reality classroom. This innovative program, a collaboration between entertainment company Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University (ASU), is revolutionizing the way sixth, seventh, and eighth graders approach science education.
According to KJZZ, the program has yielded remarkable results, with students exhibiting higher attendance rates, completing more assignments, and displaying increased engagement. Skarlupka, a teacher involved in the program, attributes this success to the captivating nature of virtual reality, which has made her students more invested in learning.
“I’ve definitely seen my kids actually become a little bit more connected to the content and the standards that they’re learning about versus if they were just to do, like, a regular lab or even just a regular assignment,” she noted. The virtual reality experience has also enabled students to grasp complex concepts at a higher level, with Skarlupka observing that the vocabulary used in the VR program is above their usual grade level.
