Rivian Unveils Advanced Hands-Free Driving Technology

In a significant move to outpace its competitors, Rivian has revealed its latest advancements in hands-free driving, lidar technology, and a custom voice assistant. The electric vehicle manufacturer showcased its in-house system at a Palo Alto event, highlighting substantial improvements over its second-generation system released last year.
Rivian’s founder and CEO, RJ Scaringe, emphasized the company’s focus on developing its own AI technology, allowing for greater control and adaptability to customer needs. The new Large Driving Model boasts a hands-free driving assistant capable of navigating approximately 3. 5 million miles of U. S. roads with point-to-point destination service.
This marks a substantial expansion from the existing system’s 150,000 miles, surpassing current offerings from General Motors’ SuperCruise and Ford’s BlueCruise. The introduction of this technology is particularly crucial as Rivian prepares for the launch of its more affordable R2 midsize electric SUV, priced at an estimated $45,000. The company aims to make updates available to its older models, ensuring existing customers remain integrated into its evolving ecosystem.
