are in talks to invest $1 billion in Skild AI, a robotic artificial intelligence startup. This proposed round would value Skild AI at over $14 billion, a significant jump from its previous valuation of $4. 7 billion. Skild AI, founded in 2023 by former Meta Platforms Inc. AI researchers, aims to overcome a major obstacle in deploying autonomous robots in various workplaces.

The startup has developed a robot-agnostic foundation model that can be customized to fit robots of different form-factors, serving as their “brains.” This foundational model enables robots to perform a broader range of tasks, including perceiving their environment, manipulating objects, locomotion, and navigation.

The model can be integrated with various robots, such as humanoid bots, quadruped robots, and factory-style robotic arms. One of the advantages of Skild AI’s model is its ability to teach robots to perform tasks they weren’t designed to do, known as “emergent capabilities.” These simple actions could make a significant difference for robots working in physical environments.

Skild AI showcased its general-purpose model, Skild Brain, in July, demonstrating robots performing tasks like picking up dishes and walking up and down stairs.
