XAI Plans 88-Acre Solar Farm To Power Memphis Data Center

In the outskirts of Memphis, a new development is taking shape, one that promises to bring a surge of renewable energy to the city’s growing tech landscape. Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, is planning to build an 88-acre solar farm near its Memphis-based data center, Colossus 1. The proposal, filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, outlines a massive solar farm that will provide clean, energy-efficient power to the data center facility.

According to the letter of intent, xAI plans to install around 88 acres of solar panels, a significant investment in renewable energy. The site plan, which has been rendered, shows the proposed solar farm situated behind the xAI data center on Paul R. Lowry Road. Construction is already underway, with a gravel roadway added for construction vehicles accessing the nearby Colossus Water Recycling Plant site.

This move is a significant step towards reducing the company’s carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
